Turmeric
from Peru

Palillo · Curcuma longa · Selva Central

Single-origin turmeric grown and hand-harvested by smallholder families across Peru's selva central: Chanchamayo, Satipo, Pichanaki and Perené in Junín, the same belt that supplies Peruvian ginger. We supply the rhizome fresh, dried in slices, milled to powder and as high-curcuminoid extract, each lot traced to its farm and backed by a certificate of analysis. Samples are free.

The origin

Grown in the same belt that feeds the world Peruvian ginger.

Peruvians call it palillo, and it has grown in the Amazonian foothills for generations. The commercial crop concentrates in the selva central of Junín, across Chanchamayo, Satipo, Pichanaki and Perené, with additional production in Huánuco, San Martín, Ucayali and the river valleys of Ayacucho and Cusco. The warm, humid climate and deep volcanic soils give the rhizome an intense orange color and a full aromatic profile.

Turmeric takes about nine months to mature and is harvested once a year, mainly from May through August, with fresh supply extending into December. Cultivation sits largely in smallholder hands, often intercropped alongside ginger, and a growing share carries organic certification through bodies such as Control Union for USDA-NOP, EU and JAS markets. Fresh turmeric exports reached about USD 11 million and 6,000 tonnes in 2025, up 47 percent in volume over the prior year, with the Netherlands taking more than half of the shipments.

Verified at origin
Proof that travels with the lot.

The same origin verification Saphi runs across the nature economy. Each lot carries where it grew, who grew it, and how, so an importer clears customs and audits with evidence instead of assurances.

Lead-chromate adulteration check
Turmeric is a documented target for lead-chromate brightening. Every lot carries heavy-metal results for lead and chromium so buyers can rule out the adulteration signature, tied to the origin record.
Ralstonia site traceability
The EU rule effective 15 October 2026 requires each turmeric consignment to trace to an inspected, pest-free site with molecular testing. We bind the phytosanitary declaration to the exact farm of origin.
Curcuminoid assay per batch
Curcuminoid content varies by lot and drives price. Each batch ships with an HPLC certificate of analysis, so the color and potency you buy match the origin claim.
Farm-level origin proof
Smallholder lots are recorded at the farm and kept unblended through drying and milling. The origin chain lets organic and single-origin buyers verify there is no mixing with untraced material.
